The article examines within the framework of ethno-poetics the little-studied problem of comparing the national image of the world in Russian and Ukrainian literature on the material representative of artistic texts for these literatures I. Franko, L. Ukrainki, A. Chekhov, I.S. Hmelev. The author of the article traces the differences between the Ukrainian and Russian pictures of the world in the XIX and XX centuries by comparing the functioning of important cultural concepts (the cultural concept of Easter, the concepts of Law and Grace). The examples of the functioning of the categories relevant to this sacred and cultural tradition (Law and Grace, Paschalness) given in this report show that the Ukrainian culture and literature of the New Age is coming out of the mental field of Slavia Orthodoxa and is beginning to take on another mental type, a type of European Western culture focused on eudemonic values. The gap between the native and the universal is translating Ukrainian literature into a completely different cultural paradigm.

Keywords: ethno-poetics, national image, mentality, culture, Easter archetype, picture of the world.
