The traditional understanding of translation as an interlanguage text transmission (in most cases, taking into account the relevant extralinguistic factors) began to undergo a significant rethinking at the end of the 20 — beginning of the 21 century. This led to the emergence of a number of concepts in translation studies. The most famous is the scopos theory of K.R. Reiß and H.J. Vermeer. It brings to the fore the concept of the purpose of translation and the figure of its customer. The theory proclaims “the lowering of the source text from its pedestal” and the actual denial of the need to analyze the relationship of the translated text from the point of view of their equivalence. The authors of this article consider this point of view to be one-sided, since with its consistent implementation, the very concept of translation loses its certainty.

Keywords: original, translation, skopos theory, customer, goal, localization, deconstruction.
