Main differences between scientific and liberal arts knowledge are considered. Philological knowledge might be both scientific one and artistic one depending on the character of the object of analysis. The development of corpus-based technologies contributes to the shift of philological knowledge array located on the axis “liberal arts” — “sciences” towards “sciences”.

Keywords: scientific knowledge, liberal arts knowledge, philological knowledge, corpora studies, lexicology, lexicography, linguoculturology.
