The form and genres of materials about the works and the life path of the great poet and thinker Abai Kunanbayev, which reached Kyrgyz readers through periodicals of Kyrgyzstan in 1930–1940, are analyzed. It is noted that the translation of Abai’s works into Kyrgyz has mainly been carried out since the founding of the first literary magazine in Kyrgyzstan; A. Tokombayev, M. Elebayev, and J. Bokonbayev have done a great job in this direction. At that time, Abai was considered a translator, but there was no information in Kyrgyzstan about his prose, social and philosophical treatises, didactic and other works. However, Kyrgyz writers and poets have done their best to bring Abai’s poems to readers and unleash his creative potential in periodicals. Information about the first Abai scholars in Kyrgyzstan is presented.
