Reflecting on the “new historical prose” for young adults, the authors turn to the analysis of S. Potapova’s novel “The Green War”, created at the intersection of the literature of trauma and the Soviet heroic-mythological narrative of the Great Patriotic War and allowing us to talk about the unification of different generations in the preservation and transmission of universal values and cultural traditions, formation of collective memory as a basis for the development of national cognitive constants. Analyzing in detail the plot-compositional and subject-figurative elements of the narrative, describing the event outline of the novel based on the initiation plot, the authors emphasize the special role of the grandparents, who transmit the values of the family and clan, actualizing the value-semantic functions of memory. According to the authors of the study, thanks to the “text within text” technique, which connects the stories of heroines of different generations, and the presence of a documentary narrative framework, S. Potapova manages to achieve not a deliberate postulation of values, but a natural effect on readers of the novel, which tells about the work of botanical scientists in besieged Leningrad, the importance of which is rarely mentioned in the works. The composition of the article captures the stages of the heroine’s maturation, the formation of family and ancestral identity as phases of initiation: from a routine view of family values and a disdainful attitude towards family members to the actualization and appropriation of such key concepts for a Russian person as “family memory”, “family traditions”. The authors believe that the integration of S. Potapova’s novel “The Green War” into the ancestral supertext makes it possible to bridge the intergenerational gap when discussing the significance of historical memory and events of the past, while actualizing the role of successor grandchildren who determine their destiny for the future.
