The article focuses on the analysis of the lexical manifestation of the dichotomy “outer — inner” within the lexicon of Method acting as developed by K. Stanislavsky. Within the Russian theatrical tradition Stanislavsky pioneered a scientific approach to acting pedagogy establishing the professional language for the field. The study aimed to explore how the concepts of “outer” and “inner” are implemented in the terminological lexicon. An evaluation of the corpus of Stanislavsky’s works reveals that the units “outer” and “inner” are utilized both as substantives and within compound terms. The author assigns the distinct meanings for these lexical units, reinterpreting the semantics and the relationships between the terms. To facilitate student comprehension, Stanislavsky divides the general notion into two and creates the corresponding “outer” and “inner” hyponyms. Such units can refer both to the actor as an individual and to the character being portrayed. The conclusion drawn is that the “outer — inner” opposition can be considered as the central axis in the terminology of Method acting, reflecting the dual nature of acting conceptually and lexically.
