Based on the studies in the field of cultural interaction by Yu.M. Lotman, B.F. Egorov, G.D. Gachev, U.M. Bakhtikireeva considers cases of frontier space: the play “Ecstasy with Pomegranate” from the repertoire of the Tashkent theater “Ilkhom” (directed by Mark Weil); the cultural feat of the Hungarian philologist Arminius Vambery, who incognito made a dangerous journey to Central Asia in the XIX century; the journey to Uzbekistan of the hero of Andrei Bitov’s story (“One Country”); blocked cases of penetration into a foreign world in the stories “Uzgen” by V. Muratkhanov and “Sunnat” by Sukhbatanov. Muratkhanov and Sukhbat Aflatuni’s “Sunnat”. The deeds of real historical personalities (the artist A.V. Nikolaev, who became the prototype of the hero in the play “Ecstasy with Pomegranate”, and the traveler Arminius Vamberi) and literary heroes are correlated with two frontier paradigms: “searching for one’s own” and ‘searching for the alien’, as well as their position — outsider (external) and insider (internal) — in relation to the alien world. The considered examples, acting as universals for the frontier zone, can serve in literary analysis as an algorithm of behavior of previous cases of cultural interaction, present and future. The given examples of the case of “block out” can become a kind of “revision” in the receptive analysis of a number of past historical-literary travelogues.
