The present article is devoted to the problem of verifiability of etymological research, which can be hampered by uncritical replication of etymological versions, especially in popular scientific literature. In such a case, the authors rule out presumption in favour of categoricality. The necessity for verification arises in particular for etymological solutions that have been previously formulated with insufficient lexical data and without the benefit of corpora, which are essential tools for etymologists. The expansion of the range of sources studied is also recommended in order to enhance the reliability of etymological research and to identify additional informative possibilities. This should include other types of lexicographical publications. Furthermore, the utilisation of materials from a variety of etymological works can also contribute to enhancing the reliability of etymological reconstructions.
