Since their debut in the 1960s, television shows have become ingrained in popular culture and are currently the most watched shows. This article aims to identify the linguistic characteristics of contemporary Russian comedy TV series with a family theme for the period between 2022 and 2024: “Prosto Mikhalych”, “Tkachjovy na svjazi”, and “Mendelson”. Dynamic processes in the Russian language are revealed based on the lexicon of sitcom characters. Special focus is placed on slangization, univerbation, borrowings, etc. The study’s findings indicate the predominant function of slang and vernacular units as a sort of indicator of the primary linguistic trends and societal shifts. The analysis of language games and other methods intended to produce a humorous effect — essential for a comedy series — has a prominent place in this study. Aphorisms, paremias, and other phraseological unit alterations that emotionally enliven contemporary TV culture serve as examples of the language game. The TV shows and popular culture in general communicate the artistic model of contemporary society, thus more research in this field appears to be highly fruitful.

Кеуwords: TV series, feature, film text, slang, language game
