The article examines Dagestan drama of the second half of the 20th century, which is a unique cultural phenomenon that combines traditional elements of folk art and modern literary trends. The purpose of the study is to show the active search of Dagestani playwrights for new genre forms and means of expression that reflect the general processes of renewal and modernization taking place in society. The period of perestroika and the subsequent collapse of the Soviet Union led to profound transformations in the cultural sphere. Dagestani playwrights strive to preserve traditional folk forms and plots, while actively integrating new genre elements. The motifs of folk tales, legends and epics are often found in the plays. However, playwrights seek to rethink these motives in the context of modern realities. The plays of this period not only reflect the complex social and cultural processes that took place in Dagestan, but also offer a deep and multifaceted understanding These processes are viewed through the prism of genre experiments and new forms. Playwrights are actively looking for new forms of expression, which leads to the emergence of genre hybrids.
