The paper dwells on the issue of conceptual impact on the word evolution as exemplified in the lexemes valeur / value. An essential role in it is carried out by the language mechanism underlying semiotic transformations gradually observed in representative texts of various time ranges. The essence of this mechanism is proved to be of conceptual axiological nature; therefore, the mechanism is able to beget the conceptual chain evolving in the language history. The study is based on the data of ethnosemiometry as a means of diachronic analysis. Comparative analysis suggests a shift in diachronic semiometry of the lexemes valeur / value from anthropological word-meanings of human personality traits to non-anthropological ones of object qualities. The non-anthropological word-meaning intensified by the sense of measure / degree develops as aspecific term meaning in economics, painting, music, sculpture.
Keywords: word evolution, linguistic ethnosemiometry, axiological analysis, double semanticism, anthropological / non-anthropological word-meaning.
