“Tobacco Wives”: A study of hegemony and deterministic economist interpretation

На основе вторичных источников, теоретической концепции «гегемонии» Антонио Грамши (1948) и инструментария текстологического анализа Кэтрин Белси (2013) в работе анализируется произведение «Табачные жены» (2022) Адель Майерс на предмет выявления обозначенных маркеров (возникновение гегемонии, доминирование посредством идеологии, влияние и сопротивление гегемонии) детерминистической интерпретации экономической гегемонии. В исследовании аналитически изучаются маркеры, показывающие, как это литературное произведение отражает проблему гегемонии с помощью инструментов культуры, идеологии, интеллектуального и морального лидерства в американской культуре. Результаты исследования подтверждают, что подобные идеологии создают почву для эксплуатации масс, и особенно подчеркивают, что женские персонажи, идентифицированные по своему полу, расе и социальному статусу, имеют определенное положение в патриархальных общинах. В зависимости от действий персонажей, их умения договариваться с властями раскрывается сложная динамика гегемонии и ее влияние на различные социальные идентичности. Полученные в результате исследования данные помогут развить всестороннее понимание концепций гегемонии, власти и сопротивления. Работа, в которой предлагается новый взгляд на концепцию гегемонии, может представлять большой интерес для студентов-исследователей и преподавателей английской литературы и социальных наук.
