The cultural code of “Saint Petersburg” holds a unique and significant place in the poetry of Anna Akhmatova. Saint Petersburg is presented not only as an image of urban space but also as a complex symbol interwoven with the poet’s personality, destiny, and social environment. This study focuses on the analysis of poetic works closely associated with the image of Saint Petersburg. The aim of the research is to provide a linguocultural description of the cultural code of “Saint Petersburg” in Akhmatova’s works, taking into account the linguistic specificity of the expressive means she employs. The research employs descriptive, interpretative, and conceptual methods to examine how the poet uses metaphors, definitions, personifications, and other linguistic devices to construct a multifaceted and complex image of Saint Petersburg through various cultural codes. The relevance of this study is due to the insufficient exploration of the cultural code within the “Petersburg text” in A. Akhmatova’s poetry. Her portrayal of Saint Petersburg incorporates numerous contrasting yet complementary cultural codes, such as natural, temporal, perceptual, and spatial codes, which require detailed analysis. This allows for identifying the distinctive features of the Petersburg image in A. Akhmatova’s poetic worldview. The author demonstrates that the image of Saint Petersburg reflects not only Anna Akhmatova’s individual perception of the world but also the diversity of its meanings in a specific historical and cultural context. This contributes to a deeper understanding of the complexity and depth of the city as a cultural code and enriches further research into the “Petersburg text” in her poetry.
