The article is devoted to the study of issues of history, the current state and prospects for the development of Dargine lexicography. We consider these issues in relation to the development of vocabulary in the closely related languages of Dagestan. There are several stages in the development of Dagestan lexicography as a whole and Dargin in particular. The first (initial) period, of course, is associated with the advent of a glossary and lists of Dargin words. The second stage in the formation of the Dargin lexicography was the appearance of the first dictionaries of the Dargin language in the early 30s of the twentieth century. The third stage, at which modern dictionaries of the Dargin language were being compiled, is connected with the creation of Russian-national, national-Russian, spelling and educational dictionaries. The next, fourth stage of the Dargine lexicography, which began at the beginning of the 21st century and currently ongoing, was the addition and reprint of the old dictionaries, as well as the creation of new dictionaries of different types. The development of the Dargine lexicography at the present stage is associated with preparatory work to create an explanatory dictionary of the Dargin language and the compilation of modern educational dictionaries.
