The article analyzes the motif complex of Tornedalian literature. The novelty of the study is that the literature of national minorities, in particular Tournedal Finns living in Sweden, has been little studied in both domestic and foreign literary criticism. Meanwhile, Tornedalian literature itself is increasingly being published and translated into other languages, including Russian (this is confirmed by translations by Mikael Niemi, Nina Wähä, Mona Mörtlund, Bengt Pohjanen, etc.), which generally determines the relevance of the article. The purpose of the study is to draw up an objective idea of the motivational fund of Tornedalian literature; comparative-comparative and descriptive research methods are used to achieve the goal. The content of the article was a consistent analysis of the intersecting and repeating motifs and images central in the Tornedalian literature. Considered in the context of the ethnopoietic tradition, the works are a systemic “art education”. The central motif of works of art is the search for cultural identity, it also incorporates a complex of other, no less important motives: spatial, natural-landscape, historical, linguistic. The author of the article concludes that the complex of motives, including the dominant identity motive, is, on the one hand, due to the original history and culture of the ethnic group; on the other hand, caused by typical ideological problems of the ethnic group that found itself on the border territory. The analysis carried out in the article can be used to expand scientific knowledge about Scandinavian (in particular, Swedish) literature, geo-poetic and ethno-poetic representation of the literature of the North. This study can be used in modern literary criticism, is in demand in a comprehensive presentation of both Swedish and arctic literature.
