This article examines modern intonation trends in the speech of newsreaders on Russian television.  Detailed analysis of prosodic usage in Russian news discourse shows the emergence of a specific phonetic style that owes much to the adoption of English-language news presentation and intonation patterns.

Keywords: news discourse; phonetic style; intonation; prosodic pattern; prosodic borrowing; melodic contour; terminal (nuclear) tone; prenuclear part of pitch contour (head/ scale).
