On the basis of the first two parts of the novel “Doctor Zhivago” the explanation of the thesis of the novel being polyphonic is provided. It has been established that the experience of composite thinking of Dostoevsky was acquired by Pasternak and it helped him to convey the inner freedom of the characters of the novel; it is shown that the dialogue with Dostoevsky expressed itself in the creation of images of characters who have become symbols of Russia of that time.

Keywords: F.M. Dostoevsky, B.L. Pasternak, novel composition, polyphonism, alteration of the attitude towards the events, narrative and compositional unity of episodes.
