The article examines the folklore foundations of M.-S. Yakhyaev’s humorous prose and their artistic representation in works for children. The study seeks to identify elements of oral folklore that are developed within the author’s individual narrative strategy. Particular attention is given to the genre of the oral tale, its compositional structure, dialogic mode, conciseness, and its grounding in everyday situations. The paper argues that the writer reinterprets folklore devices — colloquial intonation, situational humor, hyperbole, direct address to the listener, and motifs rooted in folk belief and adapts them to the aesthetic and pedagogical objectives of children’s literature. An analysis of the stories “Hairdressers,” “Nettle,” “Cradle,” “Splinter,” and “One on One” demonstrates that comic effect emerges from ordinary circumstances, childlike spontaneity, and the tension between naïve perception and reality. Humor thus serves not only an entertaining but also a formative function. The findings suggest that the author’s prose reflects the continuity and transformation of folklore traditions within the framework of literary form.
