This is a review of the encyclopedic dictionary “Writers of St. Petersburg. 20th Century”, an electronic reference book published on the website of the Writers’ Bookstore (https://lavkapisateley.spb.ru/enciklopediya /). The book implements a dictionary that is consistent with the printed volumes “Literary St. Petersburg. 20th century. The Encyclopedic Dictionary” (St. Petersburg, 2011: in 2 vols.; 2015: in 3 vsol.). Inspired by V.G. Belinsky the reviewers tried to comprehend a particular literary problem in a broad sense: not as a specific fact but as a fragment of not only Soviet also post-Soviet Russian literature. The result is journalistic nature of this review.
Keywords: Soviet and post-Soviet literature, digital encyclopedia, writer, St. Petersburg, personality
