This work is carried out within the framework of communicative linguacultural studies — a new scientific direction that combines the study of the interaction of language, culture and communication. The article raises the topical issue of the need to include information related to the social environment, lifestyle, religion, language, traditions, signs and superstitions of the inhabitants of Sri Lanka to achieve success in the process of intercultural communication with them. The aim of the study is to describe the linguacultural features of representatives of the Sinhalese linguaculture, including information about the rules of verbal and non-verbal communication in various communication situations when expressing various types of intentions: expressions of greeting, address, agreement or disagreement, farewell, etc., confirmed by phraseological units. The work examines the cultural norms of the inhabitants of Sri Lanka: the anthroponymic system of Sinhalese names, the rules of human relationships, eating, wearing clothes, using the right and left hand, features of color designations, etc. The authors note that in the Sinhalese language there is an extensive system of addresses expressed with the help of more than twenty varieties of the second person pronoun «you», the use of which in speech depends on the degree of respect for the interlocutor, his age, social status, belonging to the male or female gender. For example, the address ඔබ (оba) “you” is used in relation to one person, ඔබලා (оbаla) — in relation to several people, expresses deep respect for the interlocutor and is accompanied by the gesture ayubovan.
