The article presents a historical study of the “Summer Stanzas” poem by Osip Mandelstam, which contains many references to the realities of Petersburg’s life in June 1913. By studying the May and June issues of the newspaper “Bir-zhevyie Vedomosti” (“Stock Exchange News”) the events of urban chronicles are linked with lines of the poem. Hence, the authors present how the poem was read by contemporaries of the poet.
