The article examines the theoretical and practical aspects of lexicography of the toponymy of the Dagestan languages, which is a complex and insufficiently studied layer of national culture. The relevance of the research is determined by the need to preserve, systematize and scientifically describe the unique toponymic heritage of the peoples of Dagestan, which is in danger of loss in the context of globalization. Based on the field research conducted in the Akhtyn district on the Lesginsky language; Gergebilsky, Gumbetovsky, Khunzakhsky districts on the Avar language; The principles of compiling regional toponymic dictionaries are being developed in Tabasaran and Khiva districts according to the Tabasaran language. The paper proposes an integrated approach combining structural-grammatical, lexico-semantic and ethnolinguistic analysis. Productive models of place formation are determined, key lexico-semantic groups are identified, and the structure of the dictionary entry, including spelling, grammar, semantic, and historical-cultural zones, is substantiated. The created academic national and regional dictionaries of toponyms are intended to become not only a linguistic source, but also an important tool for widespread use and preservation of cultural memory.
