The relevance of the study is due to the critical reduction in the number of speakers of the Shangoda subdialect of the Andalal dialect, which creates a real threat of its complete disappearance. The object of attention in the presented article is the personal names of women of the Shangoda subdialect in the linguocultural context with the identification of the reasons that led to the change in the composition of the anthroponymicon of one of the small dialects of the Avar language. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the fact that for the first time in the history of the study of Dagestan languages, female personal names of a single dialect are being examined. The aim of the article is to study the female personal names of the dialect, taking into account their semantics in the light of historical, genetic, ethnocultural and linguistic processes and trends that influenced the formation of the anthroponikon of the dialect. The study’s material is the personal names of women from one of the small subdialects of the Andalal dialect of the Avar language. The article presents an analysis of the linguistic and cultural components that have penetrated the dialect’s anthroponymy from other cultures: Arabic, Persian, and Turkic. Situated between Southeastern Europe and Western Asia, Dagestan served as an arena for the migration of various ethnic groups, leaving traces, including in the local anthroponymy. While all dialects and subdialects of the Avar language share a common source for the formation of the antproponicon, each subdialect of the Andalal dialect adapts borrowed names in its own way.
Keywords: Avar language, Shangoda subdialect, female personal names, borrowings, ethnocultural characteristics
