The article examines the main ideas of the Calvary Christians, reveals their correspondence to the content of N. Klyuev’s early lyrics. A comparative analysis of the religious and journalistic prose of V. Sventsitsky, priest Mikhail (Semenov), I. Brikhnichev and the works of Klyuev has been made. Using the example of the poems included in his books of the early 1910s (“Pines Chime”, “Brotherly Songs”), a combination of the poet’s revolutionary aspirations and his religious views is noted. In Klyuev’s еarly poetry, the ideas of the Calvary sacrifice of every man, the new earth and the coming earthly paradise, the understanding of his high mission in the realization of the “plan of God” sounded. Klyuev was also close to the interest of the Golgotha Christians in the people, at the same time he critically perceived the idea of the intelligentsia about the God-bearing people. The question is raised about Klyuev’s stylistic skills, the fundamental difference between the poetics of his early religious lyrics and the style of poetry of mature times. In the article, the hermeneutical approach to texts is accompanied by an appeal to non-textual factors. The history of the poet’s personal and creative ties with the Christians of Calvary is described, and a conclusion is made about the inevitability of his alienation from the Calvarians. The attitude of A. Blok, V. Bryusov, Z. Gippius, N. Gumilev, D. Merezhkovsky, M. Prishvin to the Christians of Golgotha is discussed.

Keywords: Calvary Christians, earthly paradise, lyrics, songs, poetics, sectarians
