The article examines the evolution of Kumyk children’s literature, exploring its close connection to historical and cultural changes in Dagestan society. It emphasizes the role of folklore texts and written literature in the formation of Kumyk children’s poetry, tracing the origins of Kumyk literature back to the 19th century. Dagestan children’s literature developed on the basis of a rich folklore heritage: fairy tales, legends, proverbs and sayings, passed down from generation to generation, formed the basis of many plots and images. Folk songs, lullabies and games, reflecting everyday life and traditions, inspired authors to create works close and understandable to children. National heroes, animals with their characteristic features, mythological creatures — all this was organically woven into the fabric of children’s literature, conveying important moral values. At the origins of Kumyk children’s poetry are the works of A. Bashirov, B. Astemirov, N. Khanmurzaev, A.-P. Salavatov, A. Magomedov, Kaziyau Ali, A. Akavov, A. Adjamatov, A.-V. Suleymanov, K. Sultanov, Yu. Gereev, I. Kerimov, A. Adjiev, Yu. Alimkhanov, Sh. Kadiev, M. Alibekov and A. Akaev, and many others, who in their works called on children to honor books and strive for knowledge.
