The tradition of bread making in the second half of the 20th century by rural residents of the Voronezh region: ethno-linguistic aspect

This paper discusses the process of preparing the most valuable rural product. The purpose of the scientific work is to represent, according to the memoirs of the villagers, the custom of handmade bread-making that existed in the second half of the 20th century, reflected in the folk dialect and the picture of the world of dialect speakers. In the course of writing the article, the following methods were applied: interviewing, questioning, observation and generalization. The novelty of the study lies in the fact that the original family tradition of a rural settlement located in the southeast of the Voronezh region has been registered and described. As a result, a large culinary act of making a finished dough product at home is presented, consisting of 12 interrelated stages. It is concluded that the bread preparation of the last century was a long, laborious and creative process carried out by the parents of a peasant family. The described tradition was part of the family culture and the culture of the villager in general. Through it, communication was maintained between different generations of rural people. Bread acted as a shrine and was of high quality. Any collective meal began with its use. It is indicated that fundamental changes have taken place in the former custom, the tradition of bread preparation as a process has completely lost its existence. The realities of the 21st century have left an imprint of modernity on the functioning ritual. The practical significance of this research lies in the fact that interesting information can add new information to the regional databases of the linguistic laboratories of the Voronezh State University and the Voronezh State Pedagogical University and be used in special courses on “Voronezh local history”. The material is introduced into scientific circulation for the first time.
