The present paper is dedicated to the rendering of two everyday realia (χιτών and ιμάτιον) in the fragment of the Sermon on the Mountain (Mat. 5: 40). Both units are well-known enough and aren`t usually qualified as provoking any difficulties in understanding. At the same time their translation is characterized with noticeable variability, and this difference sometimes has a dramatic influence on the comprehension of the target text. Some Russian versions of the New Testament created in the XIX–XXI centuries are examined in connection with this aspect, and the methods of the representation of the said words are analyzed.
