In the article from a new perspective considers the system of images of the story of Maxim Gorky “Starukha Izergil” (“Old Woman Izergil”). A textual comparison of the earliest story by Gorky with the works of Nietzsche allows us to see the structural organization of the story from an unexpected point of view, to understand its ideological morphology. Analysis of Nietzschean motifs in the story of Gorky allows to see the familiar text in a different perspective and to better understand the stages of formation of Gorky-artist. It allows to become aware of the steps, which rose a young writer in search of a man inside and on the way to a Proud Man in the system of his artistic creativity.
