The paper considers the primary root. The ancient primary roots’ existence is proved. Primary root’s sense doesn’t change, it translates through ages. The meanings are transformed by metonymy and metaphor; such transformations get the form of the words in different languages. For the primary roots’ studying is introduced cognitive-comparative etymology method. The primary root reflects the process of language cognition. As a result of this process certain elements of reality were identified and nominated.

Keywords: primary root, translation, transformation, sense, meaning, method, cognitive, etymology.
