The paper contains a comparative analysis of the two concepts of the theory of the novel; the path traced by researchers in the study of genre of nature, origins and genesis of European novel; showing the relationship of the patriotic tradition in the study of problems with foreign authors; reviewed by Parallels in the study by researchers at the genre of Dostoevsky.
