The wedding and wedding rituals of the Dagestanis had a lot in common, although there were many local variants, and many archaic features were preserved, the roots of which go back to the early stages of family and marriage relations. All these features are revealed when the lexical material is recorded by dialects and varieties. Often, each village has its own distinctive features, peculiarities in the wedding ritual and in the vocabulary related to it. The Dargin institution of matchmaking, which consists of a complex of actions, ceremonies, and attributes of wedding rituals, as well as well-wishes that contain a certain magical meaning, is one of the most striking manifestations of the traditional culture of the Dargins. The lexical material is subjected to word-formation, morphonological, and semantic analysis, and the native and borrowed layers of vocabulary are identified. The etymology of individual names is also discussed. The study of the vocabulary of pre-wedding rituals has theoretical significance (it allows us to identify the main features of ritual vocabulary and reveal the local specifics of the ritual) and practical application (the creation of dictionaries of folklore vocabulary, its use in teaching dialectology, and the development of courses dedicated to the analysis of wedding terminology, etc.).
