The birth of style, or What the formalist Tynyanov owes to the symbolist Annensky

The critical understanding of the symbolist legacy by representatives of Russian formalism has significantly enriched the theoretical apparatus of Russian science. Russian literature has repeatedly emphasized the revolutionary role of symbolism in the development of Russian literature. Yu.N. Tynyanov said that representatives of the first generation of Russian modernism “changed literature”. About one of the key figures of symbolism, Tynyanov wrote a little about I.F. Annensky and did not devote a separate study to him, but each time the mention of this poet turns out to be important moments in dialogue with contemporaries, both like — minded and opponents, as well as evidence of the formation of a general methodological apparatus of poetics. In the review articles of 1923, “Literary Thought. Almanac II” and “Petrograd. Literary Almanac, I” as well as “Literary Fact” (1924), Tynyanov spoke about the poet himself and his critics. The original artistic work of Tynyanov, no less than the development of research thought, was also significantly influenced by I.F. Annensky, who proposed a new approach to the analysis of literary works in the Books of Reflections and in separate articles.
