Status, problems, and perspectives of the French language in East and South-East Asia

This article analyzes the status, challenges, opportunities, and prospects of the French language in East and Southeast Asia. It presents the economic situation of these countries. It examines the role of La Francophonie, which plays a vital role in promoting the French language and culture and fostering cultural and linguistic diversity. It identifies and describes the events held by the OIF in the early 2020s that contribute to maintaining interest in the French language and identifies possible ways to strengthen its position in the region. The state of the French language in various Asian countries is examined against the backdrop of their existing multilingualism. It focuses on the study of French as a factor in its continued existence in East and Southeast Asia. The challenges facing the French language are revealed, and opportunities that open new horizons for La Francophonie are identified. It is concluded that the position of the French language in the region will be inextricably linked to the collective ability to innovate pedagogical approaches, actively encourage cultural exchanges, and strengthen collaborative networks within the Francophone community.
