The article is aimed at solving the urgent problem of typologizing media content in the context of modern media communications. Quantitative monitoring of the Russian scientific database eLibrary for 2021–2025 confirms the relevance of this category (more than 3.400 publications, 896 of which are articles in specialized journals), while simultaneously demonstrating the fragmentation of the research field and the lack of a consensus category system. An analysis of the existing classification schemes presented in modern scientific research has revealed three fundamental approaches: format-technological, focusing on the material characteristics and platform logic of content; subject-target, considering the genesis and pragmatics of content through the prism of its creators (PGC, UGC, AI-GC) and purpose; communication-classroom, exploring content as an element of interaction with the audience through the prism of interactivity, business model and degree of segmentation. As a methodological conclusion, a comprehensive multidimensional model is proposed that requires the simultaneous application of all three analytical axes to adequately describe any phenomenon of the modern media field, which contributes to an in-depth understanding of the essence and functional characteristics of media content.
