The novel “Osudareva Road”, as one of the most long-suffering works, most fully embodies the results of the development of Prishvin’s philosophical and ideological views, acting, in fact, as the crown of his creative path. Despite the numerous publications devoted to the “Osudareva Road”, there are no studies in Prishvinology that compare the views of Dostoevsky and Prishvin on the peculiarities of the life of convicts of their time. The relevance of the choice of this issue is due to the fact that discussions about the moral assessment of the Stalin era in modern society do not lose their urgency. The purpose of the article is to show the historical overlap of Dostoevsky and Prishvin’s views both on the peculiarities of human psychology in conditions of hard labor, and on the difference in judgments about ways to solve the problem of the tragic discrepancy between the interests of the individual and society, about the ways of moral reconciliation of the individual and the state. The research was conducted on the basis of the method of historical reconstruction, when, through a comparison of Dostoevsky’s and Prishvin’s assessments of the psychology of hard labor, a meta-text is established that allows a better understanding of how Prishvin comprehended the peculiarities of prisoners’ lives in Soviet camps. It is shown that Dostoevsky’s ideas and images act as a necessary context for Prishvin to comprehend the laws of the current time, philosophical and ideological assessment of the ideology and politics of the Soviet state. The obtained results allow us to more fully understand the features of Prishvin’s artistic discourse, as well as his place and role in the history of Russian and Soviet culture of the 20th century.

Keywords: Prishvin, Dostoevsky, Tsarist penal servitude, Soviet camps, psychology of prisoners
