“On that single civil...”: B. Okudzhava's “Sentimental March” in the socio-cultural context of the “thaw”

The article examines the structure, system of images and semantic basis of one of B. Okudzhava’s early masterpieces, “Sentimental March”, in its inextricable connection with the socio-cultural context of its time. The parallels and differences between Okudzhava’s works and Soviet mass songs of the 1930s are discussed. Attention is paid to images and motifs that pass through all the creative periods of Bulat Okudzhava’s life and are of decisive importance for him, such as Hope, prayer for salvation, images of the parents. The role of V. Nabokov in creating the Western reader’s understanding of the work of the outstanding Russian poet and bard is shown.
