The article presents a comprehensive analysis of precedent names of the Kursk thesaurus and locations significant for the region. The purpose of the study is, within the framework of the linguoculturological aspect and the regional component, to provide a description of the indicated thematic groups of vocabulary, selected as a result of a survey of citizens and constituting the largest structures in quantitative terms. In the course of earlier studies, the authors also identified other dominant cognitive thematic groups: “Regional artifacts”, “Historical events”, “Significant regional natural objects”, “Culturally significant objects”. When studying linguistic and cultural phenomena, the following methods were used: collection of information, description, survey/questionnaire, experiment, linguistic and cultural commentary. Using the example of the analysis of the onym Fet and the codependent name Vorobyovka, it is proved that precedent names are the main linguistic elements that represent the regional identity of the Kursk region and verbalize the most important cultural concepts. The authors conclude that in regional culture precedent names first function as linguocultural units based on the names of specific individuals who lived in a given area, or outstanding people known for their activities significant for the specified location. In the linguocultural sense, all Kursk precedent names were divided into two categories: famous personalities born in Kursk; famous personalities associated with the values characteristic of Kursk residents. This work, on the one hand, records the currently available results, and on the other hand, represents a modern solution to the traditional problems of regional onomastics, provides opportunities for new research in order to integrate and popularize scientific knowledge in the field of regional onomastics. The results of the study in the future will contribute to the development of Russian onomastics, ethnolinguistics, linguoculturology, linguogeography, dialectology, and applied linguistics.
