The article examines the theory of archetypes and its modern interpretation on the example of the works of Cherry Gilkraist “Circle of Nine. Aspects of the psyche of a modern woman in nine archetypes”, Jin Shinoda Bolen “Elder Goddesses. The new psychology of women. Archetypes of goddesses”, Merry Hope “The essence of a woman: her power, mystery, archetypes. Her goddess”, Clarissa Pinkola Estes “Running with wolves. The female archetype in myths and legends”, which reveals the image of a woman of the 21st century. For comparison, the author uses the theories of C.G. Jung and Z. Freud. The integration of these theories into the modern world and society is analyzed. It is noted that in the 20st century a great step was taken in studying the issue of the social defining role of women. Against the background of a dynamic world, the social status of a woman is changing. However, in order to determine the psychological image of a modern woman, one should be based on the classical school of archetypes and only through comparative analysis can patterns of a woman’s spiritual development be revealed. The description of female archetypes is given and an analogy is drawn with modern images of women in society. It is through the revealed archetypes that changes in the inner state and content of a modern woman are shown.
