The paper looks into the current trends in exploring the theme of the Great Patriotic War in Russian literature of 2010s. The analysis of S. Burkatovsky’s novel “The war starts yesterday”, A. Ivakin’s novels “We will perish yesterday” and “Paratroopers-1942. The icy hell”, N. Berg’s novels “Lyokha” and “Ignoring blatantly” revealed noticeable shift towards alternate history, fantastic military thriller and historical military generic forms occurring in the current social and cultural context. Divergent as they are, the genres reveal considerable similarity of the principle parameters, including the typical plot, the main character type, the principle of the reconstruction of the past, which enabled the author to argue that the emergent form of depicting the events of the Great Patriotic War might be classic historical military prose.

Keywords: literature and history, the Great Patriotic War, historical military prose.
