The article discusses the concept Morin ‘the horse’ in Buryat linguoculture in order to identify the specifics of its transformation and the degree of preservation in the modern language consciousness of Buryats, speakers of Buryat and Russian languages. As comparative materials of Mongolian and Buryat researchers, reflecting the richness and diversity of its representation in the traditional Buryat culture, are attracted. It is shown that the importance of the horse in the nomadic Mongol culture caused a special cult attitude to it and, accordingly, the image of the horse is one of the most significant, symbolically loaded in Buryat folklore. The analysis of modern horse stories was carried out taking into account the results of the associative experiment, which recorded the reactions of Buryats in the native and Russian languages. For comparison, the data of the “Russian Associative Dictionary” were also attracted. The results of the study showed the relatively high importance of the horse in modern life of speakers of Russian and Buryat languages, but modern representations of the Buryats about it, despite their diversity, differ significantly from the existing folkloric images of the animal. They are more pragmatic and have almost no symbolic connotation. For the present certain elements of this image are preserved in the native language, they, as well as folklore representations, are positive, the presence of metaphorical comparisons is significant. That is, bilinguals give associative reactions with both their own folklore and Russian, ethnically marked images in their linguistic consciousness are still present. In general, they are characterized by a stereotypical image of the horse, which is most clearly seen in their reactions in Russian.
