The article is based on archival materials that are currently being transferred to the Pushkin House. The manuscripts considered make it possible to outline the horizons and readers’ interests of Reed Grachev through quotes given in diary entries and references to the names of writers, critics, works combined with personal artistic sketches. The use of “someone else’s word” for Grachev was not an end in itself, but was always superimposed on his biography, being caused by personal events or experiences. The range of acquaintance of the writer with the world cultural heritage is extremely wide — from biblical texts to modern literature. Among the cited writers, the mention of M. Khlasko and G. Bell was first discovered, which expands the context of authors typologically close to Grachev on issues and poetics. As a rule, Cited quotes allow you to illuminate the emotional background of certain stages of his biography. Grachev did not allow direct antisocial statements, but the order of citation, semantic displacements make it possible to judge the perception of reality as deeply unfavorable. His own biography against this background confirms the incompleteness of being due to military childhood, lack of family and parental love. Materials are first introduced into scientific circulation. The structure of the article repeats the main thematic blocks of the writer’s diary entries. Research methods: cultural, biographical, historical and literary.

Keywords: Reed Grachev, archive, egodocument, autobiography, quotes, poetics
