The names of I. Brodsky and V. Shalamov, for various reasons, quite often turn out to be side by side in the talks about the general features of 20th century poetry, in the enumeration of its significant representatives and in the attempts to comprehend its dominant themes and directions. At the same time, the question of possible intertextual connections in general has not yet been raised. The subject of this research is the interaction of poetic worlds and poetic languages of V. Shalamov and I. Brodsky. The purpose of the work is to identify specific linguistic lexical and thematic facts that can be perceived as a manifestation of poetic dialogue, transmission of poetic experience and expressions of poetic solidarity, recorded in literary texts. To achieve this goal, semantic, stylistic and communicative analyses were selected. Taken together, they made it possible to establish facts of undoubted continuity in the massifs of the two poets’ work. As a result, the following can be stated. The fleeting personal contact between V. Shalamov and I. Brodsky did not have that essential meaning which is found in their poetic texts. It can be stated with precision that I. Brodsky’s poetic heritage contains at least three significant verbally expressed references to V. Shalamov’s works. They are recorded in the texts “Tikhotvoreniye moye, moye nemoye …”, “Predstavleniye” and “Osenniy krik yastreba”. All this indicates a direct aesthetic, ideological and linguistic continuity, which is expressed in direct repetitions or the development of topics that are relevant for V. Shalamov.

Keywords: indirect contact, creative reception, text semantics, intertextual links, author’s position.
