In linguistics, the hypothesis of the gradual and sequential development of languages during the history of existence throughout the entire territory of distribution was fixed, as a result of which the formation of a literary language occurs. The author, considering the history of the norms of the Russian and Armenian languages, shows that these norms are formed as a result of mixing dialects, and the development of styles that accompanies the formation of the literary language is the result of the interpenetration of variations in written and spoken language.

Keywords: history of language, literary norm, mixture of dialects, speech variations, stylistic development.
