The article offers an analysis of the story A. P. Chekhov’s “Kashtanka” from the point of view of narratology and the analysis of the peculiarities of the reception of this work in silent film 1926, In the story the character changes dog can be traced by its attitude to the new owner as its name and class. In the film, the story of the dog is processed into a story about Fedyushka, who has a dog, and their adventures. In this case, some features of the poetics of the story - dreams, lyricism, descriptions of life, the character of the artist — are used, but Soviet ideological attitudes are added, and therefore A.P. Chekhov appears as a social and social author.
